Use it when you want to express your feelings in Japanese to a shopkeeper or someone who gives you directions 🙂

When you want to ask for a name

Ask for the name of the person you’re interested in 🙂

Slightly lighter expression
名前 を 聞いても いい?(May I ask your name?)

It is best to use it after getting to know the other person well

Slightly heavier expression
お名前 を うかがっても よろしいでしょうか?(May I ask your name?)
[onamae wo ukagattemo yoroshiidesyouka?]
It is a very polite expression, but it may not be a phrase suitable for romance

When you want to ask for someone’s contact information or if they are on a social networking site

Use it when you want to know the contact information of the person you are interested in 🙂
